About our team

The Volunteer Forest Protection and Firefighting Team of the Municipality of Helliniko – Argyroupoli was founded out of necessity after the disastrous fire on Mt. Hymettus on the 17th of July 2015.

Dozens of volunteers of all ages selflessly seeking to protect the environment and public property responded to our call to action on the protection of Mt Hymettus.

The team operates under the auspices of the Municipality of Helliniko – Argyroupoli, participates in the plans and actions of the Civil Protection Office and is in excellent collaboration with the Athens No.8 Fire Station and the Volunteer Teams of the neighbouring municipalities.

Our objectives

  • Protect the forest against fires – observe the forest areas during the fire danger period and clear heavy vegetation to reduce the risk of fire.
  • Aid in forest fire extinguishing and search and rescue operations and provide first aid treatment whenever deemed necessary.
  • Provide assistance in case of civil emergencies.
  • Manage disaster relief shelters and aid victims of natural disasters.
  • Provide radio communications (with licensed radio amateurs) and participate in actions raising public awareness.
